The sealing principle of oil seals includes two factors:

The second is the sealing of the cavity, mainly the positioning of the outer edge of the oil seal in the cavity. A hydrodynamic oil film is formed between the oil seal lip and the shaft interface, which can play a sealing role. This oil film can not only serve as a seal for fluid media, but also as a lubricant between the lip and shaft. However, under dynamic conditions, oil seals typically coexist in alternate states of boundary lubrication, fluid lubrication, and dry friction lubrication. Therefore, ensuring that the oil film thickness is within an appropriate range can achieve a good sealing function.
